Complete Longboards
Few people realise just how long longboards have been around for and how much of the original skateboard design they have in them. To understand why longboards were considered by many to be the first proper skateboard design, you have to understand that skateboarding was originally a way of replicating the act of surfing, but on solid ground as opposed to water. A surfer would move his or her bodyweight over different parts of the surfboard to “carve” up and down the waves in a fluid movement, and original skateboards did the same. By moving your weight over to one side of the board the trucks flex and this causes the wheels to turn in the direction you’re leaning. By switching from side to side you can actually create forward momentum also.
You’ll notice that longboards look a lot more like surfboards than conventional modern skateboards do, and this is because they are designed for transport on level or downhill surfaces and not for aerial tricks. A longboard then is not so much designed for pulling grabs or grinds, but is still no less an extreme sport as riders can get up huge speed when carving their boards down steep hills. When you’re reaching speeds of 50mph+, you’ll probably want to be using a longboard that has a good reputation and is built very well. You’ll be happy to learn that our boards tick both boxes.
