A ‘lost’ athletic identity was experienced by both participants reporting that they felt like a ‘cripple’ on the side line. Whilst showing good imagination, this lack of realistic goals suggests that although the participant has identified that physical activity has a positive effect on his mood, he has not been offered or sought out ‘suitable’ activities to expand on his positive experiences. This enabled me to ask questions and give the teachers within my field the view that I needed instruction.
