Kayaking

Like surfboards, kayaks have been around for a very long time. Unlike surfboards however, kayaks were initially (and still are) used for practical reasons such as transportation, fishing and sightseeing. However, its human nature to be competitive and make a sport out of everything possible, and so kayaking took its place at the Olympics and at other sporting events all over the world.

There are many different forms of kayak and they are suited to different sports. There are long thin kayaks that are used for straight line speed racing. There are short and agile kayaks that are used for riding rapids and generally fooling about in, and there are sit-on-top kayaks that are great for riding surfing at the beach.

One of the downsides of kayaking is the fact that they are often quite large and difficult to lug about unless you happen to own a van. This is why some bright spark decided to invent the inflatable kayak, which enables you to deflate your boat at the end of your session and pack it into a box no bigger than a picnic basket.
