Skateboard Helmets
As a sport that has been around for rather a long time, skateboarding has seen its far share of accidents, and developments in safety gear that have result from those accidents. However, there is one bit of kit that has come on a great deal more than any other, and that is the skateboard helmet.
Back in the day very few skaters actually wore helmets, and those that did had to put up with ill-fitting and ineffective lids that did very little good in a serious fall. After the sport began to get very popular there were many calls to improve the safety standards within skating and thankfully a number of companies answered with a new generation of helmets. These came in different sizes so they fitted properly and utilised modern composite materials that were incredibly strong whilst also being lightweight.
Innovations have continued in skateboard helmet design, including the introduction of reactive materials that stiffen and expand on impact, giving the head maximum protection. Skateboarding helmets have also seen many accessories being added to them such as removable insulation that can be added or taken out depending on the weather. Built in headphones are now also common in skateboard helmets so that skaters can listen to their favourite tunes whilst cruising the streets or riding the half-pipe.
