Skating

Skating, rollerblading, blading...call it what you will, this sport has been mega popular for a massive amount of time now and it’s not difficult to see why. Being able to simply strap a pair of wheels to your feet and shoot along at massive speeds and with little effort is the dream of most kids, and skates make that possible. Back in the day, roller-skates were very uncomfortable and pretty ineffective as the wheels weren’t very efficient. Over the years blades have gotten much more comfortable and the bearings and wheel materials have advances also, making it easier to glide along with ease.

Like with most street sports there are a wide variety of skating options, from speed skating to vert skating and aggressive skating. Also, much like with BMX, skates can be used as a form of transport, which has only boosted their popularity further. It’s a very easy sport to get into due to the relatively low cost of the equipment, but make sure you invest in some decent safety gear before you start though. It really isn’t any fun to start off in a brand new sport, then injury yourself soon on and have to sit out whilst your body recovers.
