Snowboard Helmets

For a long time there was a lot of stigma surrounding snowboard helmets and they had an image of being very uncool. Thankfully this perception has changed a great deal now and many riders view wearing a helmet as just common sense.

There have been quite a few high-profile incidents where people have been serious or fatally injured by not wearing a skiing or snowboarding helmet and this really shows the severity of the situation. When you think about it logically, during most snow sports you are travelling at very high speeds on a very unstable surface and with lots of hard and sharp objects around such as trees, rocks and even other people’s equipment. Nobody is 100% in control when snowboarding, and all it takes is one small mistake to cause serious implications. What many riders don’t consider either is that they might be the best snowboarder in the world, but others around them can easily makes mistakes that will put that rider in danger also.

Snowboarding helmets are a whole lot more comfortable than they used to be as well. Helmets of old basically consisted of a bit of reinforced plastic and a neck strap. Modern helmets however can be customised to fit the rider’s head perfectly, have insulation that keeps you dry as well as warm, and have all sorts of gadgets that can be added. For example, some helmets have built in Bluetooth so you can talk to your mates whilst boarding on other sides of the mountain. You can even get a built in MP3 player in helmets, so you can give your riding its very own soundtrack.
