Wakeboard Bindings
There are a lot of different wakeboard bindings on the market to choice from these days, but at the end of the day you get what you pay for. If you’re just starting out in the sport then you don’t need to fork out too much. But just don’t expect for those bindings to be suitable for too long as you start to progress.
Cheaper bindings don’t have as much technology to keep your feet secure and don’t give you as much responsiveness with the wakeboard as higher-end bindings do. This is both a blessing and curse however. When you’re first learning to wakeboard you don’t really want your feet to be secured to the board too well because when you bail (which you will) you can do real damage to your legs if you get dragged along still attached to the board. You’re much better off detaching from the equipment (like you would in waterskiing) and going and picking it up later.
Having said this, once you start getting better and start bailing less and learning to let go when you do bail, at can be a little frustrating if you’re feet come out of the bindings too easily. Not least because it takes time to swim and collect your wakeboard and get yourself attached before you get going again.
When you become really proficient and start performing jumps, you’ll probably want your bindings to be very secure, as well as being comfortable, responsive, and able to withstand a bit of a knock.
